Roger Duke began his career at Savannah River Site (SRS), near Aiken, SC, in 1977 as a Project Engineer. He holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University and the University of South Carolina. During his 31 years at SRS, he mostly held positions in project and program management. Five years ago, his company, BNFL, changed its name to BNG America. Roger was responsible for developing and implementing a branding campaign in the Augusta area. BNG America was later acquired by EnergySolutions and Roger continued the campaign. As part of the marketing strategy, Roger became heavily involved with nonprofit organizations by serving on their boards and also volunteering for special events. He quickly discovered that nonprofits are great at coming up with plans, but generally have difficulty executing them.
Roger, a PMI certified project manager, implemented a community outreach initiative with the Savannah River (SR) Chapter of Project Management Institute. The objective was to help nonprofits complete challenging projects by capitalizing on the chapter’s expertise in project management. Roger will share his experiences on three projects; the Imperial Theatre Marquee, the James Brown Statue Cam and the Jessye Norman School of the Arts Building Renovation. His message will be how organizations, like PMI, can market themselves helping nonprofits and also make a difference in the community.
