The Clean Water Project
Water Missions International uses low-maintenance, appropriate water technologies for drinking water treatment and distribution, wastewater management, and storm water control sanitation to meet the needs of people in developing countries and disaster areas. WMI’s community development programs provide clean water for rural villages, schools, hospitals, andorphanages in developing countries. The impact of these programs on people’s lives can be tremendous:dramatic reductions in disease, improvements in health and productivity, and a new feeling of hope for the future.WMI carefully evaluates a community’s unique needs before beginning a project. In many situations, the Living Water™ Treatment System (LWTS™) is the best solution for providing clean, safe water. The LWTS™ is a simple, durable water purification system, appropriate for both emergency relief and community development. A LWTS™ can purify contaminated water at a rate of up to 10,000 gallons per day, enough for 3,000 people. More than a million people already benefit from water treated by LWTS™ installed in the last few years. When a different solution is called for, WMI’s engineers can implement alternative technologies as needed. For example, WMI has installed a water distribution system for a hospital, capped a spring for an orphanage, and rehabilitated wells after Hurricane Katrina. A thorough site evaluation is required to determine the most appropriate solution for a community’s water needs.
