Top News President's Message It is with great pride that I recognize two volunteers for their contribution to our chapter. Helene Topping and Stacy Brogden have elected to step down from their posts on the PMI Chapter Board of Directors due to other commitments. Helene has been on our board for over four years and most recently served as Vice-President. Stacy has been a key contributor to the chapter in the VP of Administration role, which she has held since January 2006. Thank you both for your wisdom, insight and dedication, you will be sorely missed at our board meetings. During this time of transition I am ecstatic about new opportunities that have recently been developed. Through the hard work of our volunteers I am happy announce a new PM Jobs distribution list. As well, the response to our community outreach projects has been tremendous. Our focus this year is to continue developing member value through networking and professional development. These two new programs are a step in the right direction. Sincerely, R. Brandon Manus, MBA, PMP President, PMI Charleston Chapter Chapter to enable your career search through PM Jobs! Currently, the PM Jobs list already has three opportunities ready to distribute. Sign-up prior to Wednesday, May 30th to receive these job listings.
Seeking Volunteers Due to other obligations and a career move, the Chapter has two open positions on the Board of Directors. We are looking for two motivated volunteers to perform the duties of both the Vice-President and the VP of Administration. Duties for these two positions are provided below. Vice-President
VP of Administration

Community Development Opportunities As part of our 2007 Community Outreach efforts to provide services to the local community, the chapter invited several members of the non-profit community to speak on strategic planning and implementation in the non-profit sector during the May 17 Chapter meeting. Ms. Charlotte Anderson’s (Vice President of 2-1-1 Services) presentation illustrated a relatively recent change in practice for non-profits to embrace a business model. This change was required to capture both the market for the products and services as well as the volunteers and funding to provide these in a competing market. Evidence of the success is illustrated by both a significant increase in services/products and giving. Amanda Hollinger Executive Director of the YWCA of Greater Charleston, Inc. spoke to the particular issues and opportunities of the YWCA. She asked the group to offer their project management experience in many industries to non-profit agencies such as herself, and especially in developing strategic and operational plans that are deliberate and achievable. Ms. Sally Burnett Community Volunteer Coordinator, 2-1-1 Hotline also from the Trident United Way offered her knowledge and experience in leading the Day of Caring for the tri-county area. She specifically requested that the audience consider becoming involved in the Project Assessment Team (PAT) effort which essentially pre-qualifies and develops an inventory of projects with agencies that then the agency and Trident United Way can identify volunteers/resources to accomplish. Attendees (as well as any member of the community) can either contact the presenters directly via 211volunteer@tuw.org or through Marie Bedard, PMI Charleston Community Outreach (mbedard@scfederal.org).
