About the Charleston Chapter

In response to increasing demand and growth in the Charleston, SC region, our Charter members gathered in April 2000 to form a Charleston Chapter of The Project Management Institute (PMI). The first chapter meeting was held May 4, 2000.

We are excited to report that membership has grown significantly. As of December 2006, our chapter has grown to 185 members.  Representative industries include: local and federal government, government consulting, private sector consulting, medical university, higher education, construction, utilities, and banking/finance. Members include program managers, project managers, information technology professionals, engineers, designers, and contract administrators.

With heightened recognition of the PMP certification in the job market, the chapter continues to emphasize education and training that will foster successful completion of the PMP Certification exam. During the past several years, chapter meetings have provided a forum for identifying the need for locally provided foundational and advanced Project Management curricula and PMP preparation. The growing demand is being met through an increasing number of individuals and local registered
education providers. The number of PMI Charleston chapter members who are PMP-certified has grown from sixteen (16) in December 2002, twenty (20) in 2003, to forty-six (46) in early 2005 and one-hundred twenty-six (126) in December 2006. PMI Charleston is also a registered education provider.

Chapter meetings are generally held during lunch on the third Thursday of every month between January and November and consist of networking, a business meeting and a learning opportunity that may provide professional development unit credits toward certification. PMI Charleston welcomes non-member participants at each of our Chapter meetings and events.
